Summary

This position is accountable for development and accuracy of all estimates and quotes that facilitate the

procurement of W. B. Powell contract agreements and management of customer interface required in the

completion of the quotation. This position is the fundamental building block of our business and is accountable

to produce results by:

  • Reading and evaluating architectural, interior design drawings, specifications, narratives. 
  • Defining, measuring, & articulating accurately varied Architectural Woodworking & related scopes.
  • Using Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam PDF, & On-Screen computer programs.
  • Communicating with and understanding customer requests.
  • Understanding and adhering to bid deadline requests and the effort necessary to meet those requirements while multi-tasking and prioritizing tasks for multiple proposals, each in different stages of the process.
  • Servicing & interacting with customer and employer personnel

 

Provides for a high degree of customer responsiveness and satisfaction. This position will interact with customers on a routine and significant basis as well as internal Powell team members from multiple departments.

 

  • Receive, review, and interpret request for quote (RFQ’s) as assigned from the Estimating Manager or upper management.
  • Accurately ascertain the intended scope as agreed upon with the customer and Estimating Manager.
  • Generates timely and accurate project estimates and quotes by utilizing company margin guidelines, current pricing tools and methodology, quoting system, custom calculations, product functionality, drawings and all other pertinent documentation. This will include the generation of accurate estimates.
  • Provides recommendations on the best application of all W. B. Powell product during both the quote and order phase to maximize customer satisfaction and company profitability.
  • Develop material takeoffs; prepare highlighted drawings clearly depicting the scope of the project quotation package.
  • Interact and provide project requirements, estimate details to manufacturing and project management.
  • Ensures all quotations are logged into the appropriate system for measurement and management.
  • Coordinates development of the quote estimate with all functional departments as required.
  • Manages the communication of the quotation package to the sales team involved.
  • Leads “Kick-Off” (transition meeting from proposal to contract) disclosing all aspects and details of the agreement to Project Management, Drafting/Engineering, Purchasing and Production department personnel.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

 

Work Environment

The work environment for this position is primarily in an office setting. As W. B. Powell is a manufacturer of architectural millwork and casework the incumbent could also be exposed to dust, various temperatures, fumes and loud noise in the manufacturing setting. Due to periodic time spent on the manufacturing floor, the incumbent must be able to tolerate some exposure to these workplace characteristics. The incumbent must also follow allow company safety procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment while on the production floor.

  • Must be able to sit at desk for an eight-hour shift (with intermittent movement)
  • Occasionally will be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds
  • Full use of arms and hands to reach overhead, forward, and out to the sides to lift, rotate, carry, etc. wood products, tools, and equipment
  • See, hear and communicate with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions
  • Must be alert and aware of surrounding for safety concerns

 

Competencies

  • Five (5) years minimum continuous & cumulative experience; preferably with custom, high-end, commercial woodworking companies with specific duties in Estimating, Manufacturing, Project Management, and / or Field Installation.
  • Education preferred: Formal education (i.e. 2 year degree, trade school, apprenticeship, etc.) beyond high school with an emphasis in architectural design, estimating, and / or wood related manufacturing.
  • Above average & demonstrable ability, knowledge, and experience with PC Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam PDF, and / or On-Screen Take-off (OST) used for quantifying material & defining scope.
  • In-depth understanding of custom, high-end Architectural Woodworking industry, i.e., fixtures, wall & ceiling treatments, casework, running trim as well as the integration of other materials including stone, metal, upholstery, resin panels, acrylics, glass, and custom finishes, including the design, detail engineering, & installation considerations required for a complete turn-key delivered product.

  • Travel: Minimal travel among vendor/material supplier facilities may be required from time to time
